A Modern Memorial for a Legendary Man

1 November 2006 - Caryn Anderson

I am deeply honored to receive the James M. Cretsos Leadership Award from the American Society of Information Science and Technology this year, along with my brilliant and dedicated SIG-III colleague, Nadia Caidi. But I am deeply saddened that I did not get a chance to meet the man whose legacy of leadership and encouragement was inspiring to so many.

It is my hope that this wiki will provide an easy and accessible place for those who knew him to share memories and reflections with those of us who never had the chance.

With deep respect,

Caryn Anderson

Jim's spirit is with us

1 November 2006 - Michel J. Menou

-

This day is in my part of the world a remembrance day during which sorrow and happy memories make an unique blend as we pay tribute to relatives and friends who passed away.

For all of my ASIS&T life Jim has been a model, a source of inspiration, consolation some times, and energy always, in order to try and make the society more responsive and pro-active, especially vis a vis our younger members.

He had the rare elegance of always keeping collective interest above all considerations.

One day he had to make the tough decision to totally stay away from ASIS&T and the many friends he counted in the society. Some of us know how serious and respectable were his reasons.

But his spirit continued to guide many initiatives and even his virtual presence to be sensed.

This memorial page is one more testimony of the fact.

May all ASIS&T members of today and tomorrow follow his example.
